September Is an Invitation to Begin Again

There is something different about September.

January may be the official beginning of a new year, but September has always felt like a fresh start.

Perhaps it is because so much of life has been shaped around the rhythm of the school year. Perhaps it is the subtle change in the light or the change you feel in the air.

Or maybe it is simply that summer begins to whisper instead of sing.

Whatever the reason, September has always invited me to begin again.

Not dramatically.

Gently.

Sometimes we think that new beginnings must be a certain way to “count”. Big decisions. New plans. New goals.

Now I think differently.

The most meaningful beginnings are often almost invisible.

They happen when we do something different.

When we take a morning walk before opening our computer.

When we choose to write one thoughtful note each week.

When we begin setting the table simply because today deserves beauty too.

These tiny acts slowly reshape our lives.

I’ve noticed this in the studio as well.

It is a month I feel focused.

I spend more time sketching than painting.

More time collecting ideas than completing them.

More time asking questions than answering them.

I’ve learned not to rush that process.

The world often tells us to produce.

Nature reminds us to prepare.

The trees don’t become brilliant overnight.

They begin changing with just a few yellow leaves.

Almost imperceptibly.

Then, one morning we suddenly notice.

Perhaps we are meant to change the same way.

One desired action.

One meaningful conversation.

One ordinary day at a time.

As September progresses, I hope you’ll resist the temptation to hurry toward the next season.

Instead, notice where this one is inviting you.

The light.

The cooler mornings.

The changing leaves.

The opportunity to begin again, not because you have to, but because every season offers us the chance.

With a little beauty every day.
