What Wings Have Been Teaching Me

The story behind the new Wings Collection

There are some collections that begin with an idea.

Others begin with a feeling.

The new Wings Collection began with something much quieter, intentional presence.

Over the past several months, I found myself stopping whenever a butterfly crossed my path or a bird landed nearby. At first, I didn’t think much about it. I simply noticed them. Then I kept hearing the birdsong. Later, I found myself sketching them, not because I had planned a new collection, but because they kept returning to my thoughts.

That is often how creativity begins for me.

Not with a calendar.

Not with a deadline.

But with curiosity.

One afternoon, while painting in the studio, I realized that wings represent something I’ve been thinking about for quite some time.

Not movement.

Not freedom.

But possibility.

A butterfly, as we know, begins life as a caterpillar. A bird grows and learns to fly before leaving the nest. Neither rushes the process. There is not an adjusted timeline. Each becomes what it was created to be in their own time.

I wonder how often we forget that lesson.

We celebrate transformation, but we rarely celebrate the process of what it takes to grow and change.

Yet most of our lives are spent there, inside the process of transformation.

Learning.

Growing.

Failing

Trying again.

The Wings Collection became my way of honoring that season.

Each original watercolor began the same way they all do: a blank sheet of paper, a pencil for sketching, clean water, several colors mixed, more water and time.

Some butterflies took shape quickly. Others needed to be painted in layers before they felt complete. Some birds were inspired by those I watched outside each morning. Others came from memories of places I’ve visited over the years.

None of them were rushed.

As I painted, I kept thinking about how wings are both incredibly delicate and remarkably strong.

Perhaps people are, too.

That thought stayed with me throughout the entire collection.

At Z’Est, our hope has never been simply to create beautiful artwork. We hope each piece becomes part of someone’s everyday life, a reminder hanging in a hallway, resting on a bookshelf, or arriving unexpectedly in someone’s mailbox.

Maybe this collection will remind someone that growth takes time.

Maybe it will remind someone they are capable of more than they realize.

Or perhaps it will simply bring a little more beauty into someone’s day.

Often, that is enough.

As the days of summer faded, I find myself thinking less about where I am going and more about where I am.

Present.

Like the butterfly that never hurried becoming itself.

Thank you for allowing me to share this collection with you. I cannot wait to see where these wings find their next home.

With a little beauty every day.
