What the Trees Never Apologize For

Every October, I find myself returning to the same thought.

Today is stunning, exactly as it is.

Trees never apologize for changing.

They do not hold onto green because it worked all summer.

They do not compare their colors to the tree beside them.

They simply become as the season unfolds.

There is something profoundly freeing about that.

I wonder how much of our lives we spend resisting natural seasons.

Holding onto routines that no longer serve us.

Continuing projects we’ve outgrown.

Trusting consistency more than the invitation to evolve.

Nature quietly teaches a different lesson.

Change is not failure.

Healthy things change.

Creative things certainly change.

As I watch the landscape transform each October, I am reminded that beauty often arrives during transition.

Not before it.

Not after it.

During it.

The leaves are beautiful because they are changing.

I’ve carried that thought into the studio this month.

Some ideas are ready to be finished.

Others need to be released.

Some collections have found their place in the world.

Others are just beginning to whisper into initial sketches.

Every season asks something different of us.

October asks us to let go with grace.

To trust that releasing one season makes room for another.

To understand that the colors of today would never appear if the leaves refused to change.

Perhaps the same is true for us.

Maybe the next beautiful chapter of our lives isn’t waiting to be released.

Maybe it is unfolding, day by day.

As you move through this season, I hope you’ll notice the quiet courage of the trees.

They never rush.

They never cling.

They simply become.

And somehow, every year, they remind us how beautiful that can be.

With a little beauty every day.
